A one-day conference looking at issues in practice, both techincal and administrative for all architects, architectural technicians, interior designers, planners, specifi ers and others interested in building design. The sessions will highlight current trends in legal and contractural matters, insurance, building regulations, town planning, sustainability and energy and job running through a mixture lectures and panel discussions.
We will be offering delegates the option to attend one of two tours before the main conference: a visit to the award winning City Academy at Hackney (limited to 20) or, a city walking tour around the city of London, with tour guide Peter Wynne Rees (limited to 15). As both tours are limited we recommend early booking to secure your place on the tour of your choice. Peter has been the City Planning Offi cer for the City of London since 1985 and an architect by training so will provide the best guide for what will be an architects guide for to architecture in the City. This lecture is the first in a series of four - Part 2 is on the 21st October, Part 3 on the 27th October and the last is on the 15th November. This lecture looks at how to value property which is suitable for development or refurbishment. In particular it examines:
• The difference between a development appraisal, residual valuation, feasibility study, viability study and a comparable valuation
• The different between land speculation and property development
• Risk management and the necessity for profit
• The various purposes for which such studies are undertaken for whom and by whom
• What is considered good practice? What guidance is available?
• What data you require before you start such an exercise and who should provide it?
• The volatility and interpretation of the results
